Myer Centre unveils a full makeover of the façade, introducing a new retail experience

The Myer Centre, situated in the heart of Adelaide and one of our city’s most historic shopping landmarks, has officially reveal the stunning makeover to the building exterior – a complete transformation from the old façade that dates back 33-years ago, marking a significant milestone and enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the long, prominent frontage within Rundle Mall.

The exciting $15M façade reconstruction project emerges from a collaboration between owner Starhill Global REIT, Architect SMFA, and local contractor Shape, in the latest instalment in a series of structural enhancements.

It is part of a series of planned works to comprehensively restore and modernise the iconic CBD address.

The latest works included the recladding of the building’s façade, new high-performance aluminium glazing, patterned aluminium battens, a large new canopy at ground level ensuring comfort and shelter for customers, and specialised lighting, transforming the atmosphere of the mall particularly at night.

Andrew White, from the Adelaide Economic Development Agency (AEDA) Rundle Mall, is excited about the façade reveal.

“Myer Centre is one of Rundle Mall’s most prominent landmarks and has a rich 30-year history as the city’s largest retail centre,” said White.

“Rundle Mall is constantly evolving, with store openings, events, and activations, and that continues with the Myer Centre’s redeveloped facade being unveiled. The building’s facade will make a bold statement at the Mall’s western end and provide another fresh, new experience for shoppers and city visitors.

“Capital investment from the private sector demonstrates confidence in city retail and recognises that Rundle Mall is going from strength to strength.”

Senior Centre Manager, Samantha McInnes, says Our aim was to breathe new life into the Centre with a fresh and updated appearance. The reinvigorated new face is more than just a renovation. “It’s a new atmosphere, a new era, and an elevated shopping experience for South Australian visitors, old and new, to the Centre, enriching the City’s shopping landscape.”

With the Centre’s prominent location and one of the most well-recognised buildings in Adelaide and a popular meeting spot for many, we look forward to future generations of South Australians creating fond memories of the Myer Centre. McInnes said.
