our
story
Our history – we all have memories here.
Visiting the Myer Centre is as South Australian as a trip to Glenelg’s Jetty Road. These are shared memories for us all, and places that transcend the standard shopping transactions. They’re nostalgic, comforting, familiar, and fun.
The Myer Centre never was just another shopping mall. Even with its grandeur, landmark location, and big-name brands, it’s the feeling it evokes for all its visitors that sets the Myer Centre apart.
Back in 1991 when the Myer Centre opened, the top two levels were what many fondly remember as Dazzeland – an amusement park and Australia’s only indoor rollercoaster. When every family in Adelaide gravitated to Rundle Mall with unlimited rollercoaster rides, dodgem cars and childhood delights. While the roller coaster was retired, the wonder of Dazzeland is forever etched within the Myer Centre psyche.
With that rich retail heritage, the biggest shopping centre in Adelaide is going through its next transformation. Purchased most recently by Starhill Global REIT in 2015, the Myer Centre is currently undergoing a facelift on the building’s exterior.
The magic in the Myer Centre history lives on for its retail tenants, the calendar of events, the food destination downstairs, and more importantly, what it will become.
